Vintage 50s Dark Brown Suede Bienin-Davis Handbag with Mirror and Coin Purse
Holding a Bienen-Davis handbag in your hands is like holding an intricate, beautiful piece of American handbag history. Started in the 1930s, Beinin-Davis used only the best Italian leather hides, used 24 karat gold plated hardware, and used beautiful lingerie-like satin linings for their masterpieces. They have a permanent collection in the MoMA in New York, and were favorites on the small and big screens in the 50s and 60s. This particular gem is such a small treasure! Made of super soft dark chocolate brown Italian suede with the most glorious carved and cast cherub emerging from a shell as a hinged clasp. It's a subtle but elegant detail. More delightful details are inside the handbag: Matching thick dark brown satin lining with a soft pink/tan contrasing lining on the pockets and inside the small coin purse. The original signature double sided mirror in a satin slip sheath is included as well. The original David's Fifth Avenue private label is intact as well. Sadly, David's is gone, but this quality handbag is intact and amazing!

Excellent vintage condition. This is an amazing piece of American handbag history, from a company that is still creating beautiful pieces. The only callout I can make the that the mirror shows some beautiful patina around the edges, and that the coin purse has plating loss on one half of the kisslock clasp, and the woven cord has separated from the coin purse. There are no popped stitches, stains, or worn corners... this purse is in immaculate condition; a true testament to bienen-davis' commitment to quality.
